LEAP DAY "TWITTER STORM"
This is another "Twitter Storm", maybe the most vital of this legislative session, to support Indiana's PUBLIC schools, teachers, and students. Throughout this event, we ask participants to post urging legislators to vote NO on SB10 and SB334. Both bills are currently in the Indiana House of Representatives. Contact House Education Committee members and ALL House members urging them to VOTE "no" on both of these volatile and damaging bills. Follow the event page, and this blog, for post, tweet, and hashtag suggestions.
Join and share the event by going to the event's page on Facebook by clicking the link below the big blue Twitter bird.

Indiana's PUBLIC School Teachers "Snubbed" by Governor Pence?
Did any one notice the "snub" of 40 thousand plus educators tonight as ISTA appeared absent during Governor Pence's State of the State Address? Hoosier Voices for Public Education founder, Philip Arnold, did. He posed the following question to ISTA President, Teresa Meredith, after the address.
"Where was ISTA tonight, didn't the Governor invite the leaders of the mass majority of Indiana's educators?"
President Meredith replied, "I was not invited, however ISTA and its members are committed to making sure our voices are heard this session, on behalf of our colleagues and all of the students we serve every day."
With so much emphasis coming out early in the new session regarding teachers, attacks on PUBLIC schools, increased high-stakes testing, further expanding vouchers, funneling more tax payer monies to charters, and the attempts to dismantle the DOE by removing powers of elected Superintendent Glenda Ritz, shouldn't educators have been at the table? Shouldn’t the ones who are in the trenches daily have been represented in this process. Was this an intentional snub by the Governor to appease the Koch brothers, the tea party, and wealthy campaign contribtors to pad the coffers for the 2016 bid for the White House?
It is time Hoosiers raise their voices as they did in 2012 and prove the value of our PUBLIC schools by standing up and being counted once again. It is time to call legislators non-stop and demand our teachers, their representatives, and those who support our PUBLIC school children be invited back to the table and given a role in making realistic efforts to see our children into a successful future.

ELECTION 2014 - HOOSIER VOICES ENDORSES PRO-PUBLIC EDUCATION CANDIDATES
If you are keeping up with this years election posts, you have seen many posts supporting candidates from both major political parties, you have read the many reasons why you should or should not support a particular candidate, and you have seen the contributions swell for those who carry their "party's banner" proudly. Here at Hoosier Voices we put the party affiliations aside as we list endorsements of PRO-PUBLIC Education candidates from across the state. These candidates are those who we see supporting Hoosier school children by ever means possible if elected to serve in the capacity they have chosen to candidate for. Please read, research, and VOTE for those in your district or statewide who you see supporting PUBLIC Education and Children on the large scale. When you vote do so with an informed knowledge that you are electing the best for OUR children.
This is a list of those candidates deemed pro-public education. We have researched and determined they rise above their opponents in the area of public education support. Some of these candidates are educators(e) or former educators(fe). If you have not yet cast your ballot, we encourage you to cast in favor of public education in your district and statewide by voting for these candidates and showing your support for Hoosier children.
